Canby Hotel Development

The City of Canby has made hotel development a strategic economic development priority to support tourism, business growth, and community events. Recognizing the need for quality lodging accommodations, the City commissioned Johnson Economics to conduct a comprehensive hotel market analysis to evaluate the feasibility and market potential for new hotel development in Canby. The study confirmed that demand exists for hotel accommodations driven by major events at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds and Event Center, sports tournaments, corporate visitors, and the growing needs of local businesses. The analysis also identified opportunities to capture visitor spending that is currently lost to neighboring communities with established lodging options. 

Building upon the positive findings of the market analysis, the City has taken proactive steps to market development opportunities to prospective hotel developers and investors. To help visualize the potential of hotel projects within Canby, the City partnered with Scott Edwards Architecture (SEA) to create conceptual hotel renderings for two strategically located sites. These renderings provide developers with a compelling vision of how a hotel could integrate into the community and serve as a valuable marketing tool during recruitment and outreach efforts. SEA has a longstanding relationship with the City, having previously designed the Canby Civic Center and Public Library.

Together, the Johnson Economics market analysis and SEA conceptual renderings form a coordinated development attraction strategy that positions Canby as a viable and investment-ready hotel market. By combining data-driven market validation with high-quality visual concepts, the City is actively working to attract private investment that will expand lodging options, support local businesses, enhance tourism, and strengthen the community's economic vitality for years to come.
