Pickle Ball Courts Coming Fall 2021

On Tuesday, September 7th, the City of Canby broke ground on the new pickleball courts to be located at Maple Street Park.

The park will see the development of four pickleball courts. Each of the courts will be individually fenced with 4 foot tall fencing separating the courts. A black dyed concrete border will support the green and blue asphalt courts. The courts will be lighted with motion-activated LED lights and a gazebo will be installed to complement the new gazebo at the Maple Street Park Splash Pad. Concrete benches will separate the splash pad and pickle ball courts.

“There has been a lot of positive feedback from the community,” said Barry Johnson, Canby Parks and Recreation Board Chair. “The majority of people I’ve spoken with are looking forward to the pickleball courts and it seems to me the public will be very excited.”

The Maple Street pickleball courts have been funded by the City of Canby and through generous donations from Dr. Ashley McFerron with Canby Eyecare and Mark and Laurie Shuholm and Family. Mark Shuholm encourages community members to give to the services and organizations which make Canby unique if they are able. He continued by saying, “…this has been a positive experience I have not seen in other communities” when talking about how staff and volunteers have come together to make the pickleball courts a reality.

The Maple Street Park Pickleball Courts are due to be finished in November, dependent on weather. For any questions regarding the Maple Street Park Pickleball Courts, please call 503.266.0789.
